Convening Principles
Defining Principles of a Reuniting America Dialogue Event
TRANSPARTISAN OUTREACH – Sincere intention and outreach to all points of view across the divides of geography, partisanship, religion, race, class, and power.
WELCOMING SPACE – A nourishing, welcoming meeting atmosphere.
INVOCATION – Silence or blessing at the beginning of the meeting.
GROUND RULES – Agreement to clear ground rules for civil conversation (respect, fairness, listening, inquiry, openness, privacy.)
CO-FACILITATION – At least two people – preferably one perceive left, one right to facilitate.
EMPOWERMENT – The group can modify agenda, ground rules, and outcomes.
INCLUSIVE DIALOGUE – Process allows every person’s voice in the room to be expressed, heard and valued.
CLOSURE – Participant feedback about the success of the process.
NOTE: Absent these 8 principles, the event is NOT a Reuniting America event.
