Repeal REAL ID (National ID)

REAL ID is a national id system passed into law by Congress that goes into effect in 2009. It federalizes the state issued id cards, requires machine readable technology as part of the card which could include in the future an RFID chip. It also requires a biometric which for now will be a picture but could be finger print or DNA down the road. The decision is that of DHS to determine both. The REAL ID law required DMV's to hold electronically vast amounts of private informaiton on citizens which makes identity theft easier and more likely. 6 States have already opted out of it and 17 more have legislation to do the same. A REAL ID will be required to enter federal builiding, to board airplans and trains as well as to recieve federal benefits. There are attempts via the immigration bill to require a REAL ID for all new employment in the U.S. for citizens and non-citizens alike. That would be part of an expanded pre-employment screening program which if goes into effect would require ALL people in the U.S. to get permission from DHS to work in the U.S.
