The President---One Six Year Term

Let's End the Permanent Campaign---One Six Year Term for the President

Every president since, but not including, President Eisenhower has become embroiled in a major scandal or other misfortune in his second term.

For example, President Nixon was forced to resign over the Watergate Break-in; President Reagan was hobbled by Iran-Contra; President Clinton was impeached (but nor removed) over obstruction of justice; and President Bush has been weakened by the war in Iraq.

One six year term would avoid temptations related to re-election, which felled President Nixon, and issues of not having the time to leave a "legacy," which seems to have made Presidents Reagan and Bush precipitous on certain cherished policy inititives.
